Kuala Lumpur, Thursday, 24 March 2016:- Going forward, seventeen member banks of The Association of Banks in Malaysia with operations in Johor which currently observe Saturday and Sunday as rest days will be closed on the next working day in the event a public or state holiday falls on a Sunday.
This will bring Johor in line with the prevailing practice in Kedah, Perlis, Penang, Perak, Pahang, Selangor, Malacca, WP Kuala Lumpur, WP Putrajaya, Sabah and Sarawak where banks also observe Saturday and Sunday as rest days. The Johor State Secretary Office has been duly informed of the additional day of bank closure.
In this regard, for the year 2016, commercial banks in the state of Johor will be closed on the following additional days:
- Monday, 2 May 2016 (in conjunction with Labour Day which falls on Sunday, 1 May 2016);
- Monday, 3 October 2016 (in conjunction with Awal Muharam (Maal Hijrah) which falls on Sunday, 2 October 2016);
- Monday, 7 November 2016 (in conjunction with Hari Hol Almarhum Sultan Iskandar which falls on Sunday, 6 November 2016); and
- Monday, 26 December 2016 (in conjunction with Christmas Day which falls on Sunday, 25 December 2016).
Bank customers are urged to use alternative channels such as online banking, automated teller machines (ATMs) and cash deposit machines (CDMs) to conduct their banking transactions during these times.
