Joint media statement by The Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) and Association of Islamic Banking and Financial Institutions Malaysia (AIBIM)

Kuala Lumpur, Friday, 19 September 2025 – The member banks of The Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) and Association of Islamic Banking and Financial Institutions Malaysia (AIBIM) wish to express their sincere sympathy and concern for all those affected by the recent floods in Sabah. Our thoughts are with the families who have lost homes, livelihoods, and loved ones and we stand with every individual and community affected by this disaster.

ABM and AIBIM member banks are committed to help ease the burden and restore hope. To support those impacted, ABM and AIBIM participating member banks have mobilised a range of assistance measures which among others include:

  • Financial relief and assistance – such as loan/financing moratoriums, rescheduling and restructuring of loans/financing, free replacement of bank documents and bank cards, special financing packages for recovery, waiver of late payment fees – to help affected customers manage their financial obligations.
  • Essential aid on the ground through collaboration with NGOs to deliver food, clean water, and essential supplies to affected areas.
  • Community outreach – actively engaging with communities to offer support and advice on flood relief funds, insurance/takaful claims, and available banking assistance.

We understand that recovery takes time and our member banks continue to be committed to supporting affected customers and communities. We encourage anyone experiencing difficulties or facing challenges to come forward and engage with their bank to explore the options available. Together, we remain dedicated to providing the necessary support through this difficult time.

ABM, AIBIM, and participating banks remain focused on offering practical, inclusive support to those in need.
