Kuala Lumpur, Tuesday, 17 March 2020 – The Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) would like to assure members of the public that essential banking services of our member banks will continue to be made available. Our member banks are ready to assist bank customers in light of the current outbreak of COVID-19.
We would like to assure members of the public that the following essential banking services remain uninterrupted during this time:-
Bank customers intending to visit their bank branches are advised to check for the latest status and updates of their banks via the banks’ websites or through the banks’ service hotlines beforehand.
As safety remains a top priority during this time, we would like to assure members of the public that our member banks are undertaking necessary steps to ensure the safety of their bank customers and staff at all times.
As an alternative to visiting bank branches during this time to conduct essential banking services, bank customers are encouraged to use other forms of banking services where possible, such as via phone, mobile and/or online services for greater convenience. This is in line with the government’s call to promote social distancing during this period of movement restriction.
We reiterate that bank customers experiencing financial difficulties arising from the current COVID-19 outbreak should consult their banks as soon as possible to discuss their options pertaining to their loan commitments and/or repayments.
We also take this opportunity to advise the public to be aware of the possibilities of scams related to COVID-19. Members of the public are advised to remain vigilant at all times on scams related to COVID-19, which may be promoted in its many forms to take advantage of the public during times of emergency. Bank customers are advised to get in touch with their banks for enquiries, clarification and/or assistance if necessary.
