ABM and member banks engage with ACCCIM to showcase e-payment products

March 26, 2014
Kuala Lumpur, Wednesday, 26 March 2014: The Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) together with several of its member banks held an engagement session with The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) to showcase the various electronic payment (e-payment) channels and products offered by the banks. At the event hosted by ABM at its office in UBN Tower, Kuala Lumpur, participating banks explained their respective ranges of online cash management suites, in particular the use of Interbank GIRO (IBG) via internet banking and mobile banking, to 14 members of ACCCIM. They also provided a step by step demonstration on how to perform an IBG transaction online.

ABM together with its member banks have been actively promoting e-payments such as organizing road-shows throughout the country since October 2013 to showcase the many benefits of using e-payments. ABM has also held numerous engagement sessions with the regulators, public sector and corporate sector via forum and dialogues to deliberate issues regarding the migration and adoption of e-payments.

“We fully appreciate the initial concerns and reservations that many people have regarding the use of internet banking and mobile banking to transfer funds and pay bills. That is why we feel that the best way to address these concerns is to provide a hands-on demonstration of the various facilities available,” said Chuah Mei Lin, Executive Director of ABM. “We hope to hold similar sessions with other groups in the future.”

“In addition to such demonstrations, we are also constantly engaging our key stakeholders through other avenues on how the commercial banking industry can assist them to be more efficient and cost effective in their operations, especially in the aspect of making payments and transferring funds. We certainly value their feedback and suggestions on how banks can better support them to achieve their goals via using e-payments,” Chuah continued.

To allow customers to experience or find out more about IBG, ABM’s member banks have been and are hosting “Open Days” at their participating branches across the country. Banks have also assigned staff ‘ambassadors’ at the banking halls to assist customers to familiarize themselves with e-payment channels positioned at bank premises themselves, such as internet kiosks and automated teller machines (ATMs). Members of the public are encouraged to approach their banks for information about these services as the banks would be most willing to guide them.

ABM and our member banks are in full support of the national agenda for the migration to e-payments and would like to encourage members of the public to adopt e-payment which is a fast, affordable and convenient method of transferring funds and making payments.
