The Association of Banks in Malaysia as the Chair of the ASEAN Bankers Association (“ABA”) Permanent Committee on Inter-Regional Relations (“IRR”), organised the ABA Virtual Study Tour 2024 where a sharing session/panel discussion on the journey and experience towards achieving net zero by GFANZ (“Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero”) and its partner organizations, UOB Singapore, HSBC Singapore and Mizuho Financial Group was held on 8 August 2024. The speakers and moderator during the session were:

• Ms Yuki Yasui, Managing Director of GFANZ APAC Network;
• Mr Tim Chan, Public Policy Senior Manager of GFANZ APAC Network;
• Mr Teppei Yamaga, Managing Director, Sustainability Planning Department Mizuho Financial Group;
• Mr Martin Davis, Senior Vice President, Sector Solution Group for UOB Singapore; and
• Mr Kelvin Tan, Managing Director, Head of Sustainable Finance & Investments for ASEAN from HSBC Bank, Singapore.

About 90 participants comprising senior bankers and representatives from 10 ASEAN countries’ National Banking Associations (namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia) and their respective members participated in the session.

The session was indeed very productive and fruitful for all the delegates, who came away with a much better overall understanding on the journey and experience towards achieving net zero.
