The ASEAN Bankers Association (ABA) and the Hong Kong Association of Banks (HKAB) marked a significant milestone on 14 October 2026 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening collaboration between the banking sectors of ASEAN and Hong Kong.
The MOU was signed virtually by Mr Paul Gwee, Secretary General of ABA, from Singapore and Mr Stephen Chan, Acting Chairperson of HKAB, from Hong Kong. The signing was witnessed by Mr Sutheshan Shanmugarajah, Chair of the ABA Permanent Committee on ASEAN Inter-Regional Relations, joined by banking industry representatives at the ABM Boardroom in Kuala Lumpur, and Ms Grace Yeung, Secretary of HKAB, in Hong Kong.
Building on the success of the inaugural Hong KongβASEAN Banking Exchange Conference held in Hong Kong in 2025, the MOU provides a platform to deepen cross-border engagement, facilitate knowledge exchange, advance regional integration, and unlock new opportunities along the Hong KongβASEAN economic and trade corridors.
ABA looks forward to working closely with HKAB to foster stronger banking ties and support a more connected, resilient, and forward-looking financial ecosystem across the region.
