KUALA LUMPUR (May 19): Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank), which will continue to make available the group’s loan repayment assistance to support borrowers impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, said today that as of early May 2021, the bank had processed over 200,000 loan repayment assistance applications and approved eligible ones involving some RM32 billion worth of financial help.

In a statement, Maybank said that of these approved applications, about 37% were granted further deferment of repayment of their loans and financing, while the remaining customers were granted lower instalment payments for an agreed duration.

"Maybank today reaffirmed that it will continue to make available repayment assistance to support its individual and small and medium enterprise (SME) customers whose livelihoods have been impacted by the pandemic.

"Customers who require financial assistance can still contact the bank to discuss and work out the most suitable repayment assistance packages to address their financial difficulties, while applications can be easily submitted through various channels, including online, for enhanced convenience.

"Maybank’s priority is to ensure that its customers continue to have access to the financial assistance they require as the pandemic prolongs and be able to have some cash flow relief as they seek to manage their various other obligations during this challenging period,” Maybank said.

On Bursa Malaysia today, Maybank’s share price had fallen six sen or 0.72% to RM8.33 at 3.44pm, giving it a market capitalisation of about RM95.05 billion.

Maybank has 11.41 billion issued shares, according to its latest annual report.
