As we round out the week, still in celebration of Human Rights month, I take time to reflect on the tremendous strides of the industry in creating employment opportunities for South Africa's talented youth. Inclusive hiring has been a priority in the industry for years now and BPESA members and partners have led this charge with intentional purpose. Opportunities for learning and growth present themselves across platforms such as the BPESA Future Skills Platform (FSP) enabling young South Africans the opportunity to engage a learning journey, preparing themselves for the world of work. Statistics are astounding and the engagement continues to increase for both learners and industry contributors. Equally, the SA Youth network has also been a fantastic collaboration of government and private sector to support another employment avenue. Thanks to BPESA member partner Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator opportunities for learning and employment engagement of young people in this fast growing sector is tangible and easy to access. In the same breath, employers have access to over 3.5 million talented youth, eager for opportunities to showcase their passion and enthusiasm. During human rights month, noting the simple access to a broad range of diversity the platform offers, with proven benefits of higher levels of staff retention and improved customer support. The team continues to partner with industry to create an environment where Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEI(B)) are the foundations for strengthened businesses. A key mandate BPESA responds to is providing high-quality, information-based services to international clients whilst maintaining the unique industry culture build on a solid and social responsibility foundation. It is equally worth mentioning that we've kicked off with The Coca-Cola Foundation (TCCF) project, another one-of-a-kind initiative that empowers unemployed women in the country with relevant knowledge and gainful economic upliftment opportunities. Lastly, thank you to our partners and members who submitted responses to support the Jobs Boost application. In our newest blog, we talk about how Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging programs are facing a surge of challenges and backlash. The past several years have seen an increase in DEIB initiatives, but many forces are now attempting to undermine these efforts, often using arguments that DEIB divides or is unnecessary. DEIB programs are being weaponized by terms like "reverse discrimination," increased micro-aggressions against underrepresented groups, unrealistic expectations, and challenges to metrics and program effectiveness. The bottom line is this: DEIB has a positive impact on innovation, talent attraction, and workplace satisfaction.
