The Mid-Term Review of the 12th Malaysia Plan presented by Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim earlier today, among several objectives related to the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI) outlines a direction focused on enhancing R&D, with the aim of increasing the contribution of GERD (Gross Expenditure on R&D) to GDP by 2.5% by the year 2025 and creating a BERD (Business Expenditure on R&D) contribution of 70% to the total R&D. In addition, the government will also launch a Social Innovation Policy to stimulate creativity at the grassroots level, in an effort to mainstream innovation among the public and make innovation one of the drivers of the country's economy. MOSTI is also working to strengthen the technology startup ecosystem through various initiatives, including collaborations with GLCs, hosting startup conventions, and providing grants amounting to RM266 million for local startups to spur technology growth. Despite challenging global economic conditions, I am confident that with a clear direction and good governance, the country will be able to achieve the set targets, making Malaysia once again an economic champion in the Asia region. #RMK12

MSMEs are 99% of all business units, and they are crucial to the growth of the Indonesian economy. In terms of labour absorption, MSMEs accounted for 96.9% of the country's labour absorption and 60.5% of its GDP. According to the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), 7.1 million NIB were awarded in 2023 through the use of Online Single Submission (OSS) technology. This number is far higher than the 2.4 million NIBs that will be distributed in 2022. The NIB issued in 2023 is mostly composed of 6.8 million micro enterprises, 187,402 small businesses, 23,350 medium businesses, and 47,874 large businesses. The simplicity with which a business can be registered online has led to a surge in the number of NIBs given. #indvestime #batam #indonesia
