Kuala Lumpur, Monday, 5 June 2017: The Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) and the National Cards Group (NCG) jointly conducted PIN and Pay engagement sessions recently with various business sectors in Johor Bahru and Penang. Similar engagement sessions were conducted by Bank Negara Malaysia in Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Kuala Lumpur and Miri.

The PIN and Pay engagement sessions encompassed dialogues with the business communities and government agencies on the use of Personal Identification Number (PIN) for payments using credit, debit, charge and prepaid cards at point of sale (POS) terminals. The objective of these sessions was to reach out to the members of the business community to better understand any issues faced in the use of PIN.

The engagement sessions were well attended by representatives from various trade associations as well as the food & beverage, pharmaceutical, IT, general retail, travel & tours, hospitality (hotels) industries. Also present were representatives from five acquirers namely, AmBank, CIMB Bank, Global Payments, Maybank and Public Bank.

Participants were reminded that with effect from 1 July 2017, signature will no longer be accepted for payment verification at POS terminals. Cardholders would need to enter their PIN when making payment with credit, debit, charge and prepaid cards when prompted. The participants were advised to contact their banks if they need assistance.
