UOB Malaysia makes Raya a little brighter for underprivileged children through its My Digital Space programme

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 26 May 2022 – To celebrate the Aidilfitri festival, UOB Malaysia has donated laptops to support vulnerable children from challenging socio-economic backgrounds with their digital learning. The laptops were distributed to Rumah Titian Kaseh and Seri Puteri Science Secondary School under the UOB My Digital Space Programme1.

UOB My Digital Space2 is a multi-year regional education programme to bridge the digital gap for students from disadvantaged backgrounds across the region and to connect them to a world of digital learning opportunities.

Mr Mohd Fhauzi Muridan, Executive Director and Country Head of Islamic Banking, UOB Malaysia, said, “While Aidilfitri is a time for celebration, it is also a timely reminder to give back to those in need. Children from disadvantaged backgrounds often do not have access to digital devices such as laptops to enable them to access boundless of learning opportunities. Through our contribution, we hope to provide these children with the necessary tools to continue their learning and acquire new skill sets to help them chart a brighter future.”

The Bank also donated other items including children art sets, environmentally friendly straw sets, teddy bear coin boxes and duit Raya to Rumah Titian Kaseh, in support of Bank Negara Malaysia’s value based intermediation initiative for financial institutions to create a positive impact within the communities in which they serve. Additionally, a financial literacy class was conducted at the home to instil financial awareness among the children.

Ms Sharifah Adlan, Founder of Rumah Titian Kaseh, said, “We are grateful to see organisations such as UOB Malaysia making the effort to support children’s education needs. With this donation, our children will have the opportunity to progress with their learning and development while we can focus on providing them with the basic necessities.”
