Committed to #KeepTheGoodGoing, our colleagues from various departments came together to volunteer for the Kampung Solar initiative. They travelled to Royal Belum, Perak to install PICO solar lights in the homes of the Jahai tribe. The volunteers also provided the local community with household supplies, ranging from bedroom furniture to kitchenware, and spent time with the locals once installation works were completed. The volunteering experience ended on a high note as our colleagues got to build camaraderie among themselves and enjoy nature like the locals. In partnership with SOLS Foundation, the Kampung Solar initiative aims to brighten up the lives of off-grid communities by providing them with sustainable lighting systems. #UOBHeartbeat

As a Canadian who lived in Indonesia for four years, It's a true honour to be able to share the stories of the Pemulung Communities and amplify the incredible work of XSProject. Check out my article with Spheres of Influence if you're interested in learning more about the cycle of poverty within Indonesia's trash-picker communities, and the work XSProject does with recycling and sustainability to empower Pemulung families. https://lnkd.in/gH4nmYnU

🌿 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬: 𝐀 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥-𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 🌿 When discussing community projects, a concept that frequently emerges is their '𝒔𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚'. 🌏 But what exactly does this mean? Essentially, it's ensuring that communities can independently operate and maintain the benefits they've received, long after the initiating support is over. 🤝 Last week, I had the privilege to visit Arnaldo, the proud owner of "Auto Peças Mwana Bava". This is one of the three small companies in Inhassoro and Govuro that Sasol em Moçambique, through SNV, has financially empowered to supply crucial components for maintaining the boreholes and small water systems built or repaired across the communities. 🛍️ Arnaldo expressed his gratitude and shared that the business is thriving. The communities have begun purchasing from him, signalling not just economic growth, but a promising sign for the future 𝒔𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 of our water and sanitation initiative. 🌱 Such experiences reaffirm my conviction: 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐟𝐮𝐥, 𝐢𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞. 🚰 I'm very happy to see the tangible results of our work, and I'm optimistic about the lasting positive change Sasol is fostering within Inhassoro, Govuro and Vilankulo districts. #CommunityDevelopment #Sustainability #Empowerment #Sasol #SNV #WaterAndSanitation

Let's talk GREEN a little bit! This morning, I stood on the very last floor of one of the fancy buildings in Kampala just to imagine our city's history and appearance. The current trends defining the world apart from conflicts/wars are: Environmental Conservation, Technology and social freedom. An interesting part about the city of Kampala is that at every building there will be a tree or a shade. Without bringing our differences, the city is green with the potential to be even greener. To achieve this green margin, Ugandans are known for taking part in Corporate Social Responsibility sponsored by major companies. Charity runs, walks and the likes. Can we now see that every company plants a tree in front of their offices and a plant in the building. We don't need a law we need us to take the lead. Imagine if every parent gave a tree as a gift to a new born baby. This baby grows loving its tree and seeing that no one cuts it down but rather plant another two as a gift to say thank you to dady and mumy. Where would the city be? Where would the community be and above all how green would the environment look? #environmental #conservation

As we join Her Majesty Gyalyum Tseyring Pem Wangchuck, Bhutan Youth Development Fund, Youth Volunteers in Action, the Bhutan Ecological Society, Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation, and other partners to plant oak saplings high above Thimphu, we celebrate the coronation anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, a stalwart champion of the environment. It is Social Forestry Day today. The blazing hot day devoid of any precipitation already in June is a reminder of the erratic weather patterns that is commonplace now. Yet, we are hopeful to share Bhutan's journey in maintaining a high level of integrity to match our climate pledges and low emission strategies. For the transition to decarbonization and climate proofing, access to finance and technology is key. Looking forward to supporting Bhutan's journey to COP28 and beyond. #climatechange #action #partnership

‼️Empower me to be Smart and a sustainable! Another inspiring lesson from my visit to north of #Pakistan to one of the rural villages called Gircha gojal.. It is a small village with 28 houses and living together as a #smartcommunity having their own community and culture. Not just that; they are using clean energy #hydrowaterpower to generate electricity. How is that? They got this project sponsored by one of the companies and the community were trained how to use it as they have plenty amount of water surrounding the village. We need to take actions like this story to enable more #cities and #villages to adopt the green alternative technologies in order to improve the quality of people’s lives. What I loved at the end of our trip in this sustainable village is the library that is a powerful too to keep educating all the village kids who most of them today are winning golden medals 🏅 and trophies 🏆 in different sectors. 🏆We need to empower people in every village and city by training them and providing them with the projects that enable them to lead their communities and cities to be smart and sustainable ❤️ 🏅If you have a successful story like this one, please share it ❤️ #smartcities #sustainablecities #greeneconomy #greentechnology
