Inaugural Dialogue with SMEs and Business Organizations in Kota Kinabalu Organized by The Association Of Banks
Kota Kinabalu, Thursday, 21 October 2010 – In their second leg of the tour of East Malaysia, so to say, representatives of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and The Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) from Kuala Lumpur arrived here after their first stop-over in Kuching, Sarawak for a get-to-know-you session today organized by ABM with Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), business organizations and Sabahan bankers. Joined by their counterparts from SME Corporation Malaysia (SME Corp) and Credit Guarantee Corporation Malaysia Berhad (CGC), the Dialogue was timed so as to dovetail with ABM’s SME Seminar as well as the start of Minggu Kesedaran Kewangan (M2K) tomorrow.
The Dialogue was attended by approximately 70 bankers and representatives from the various chambers of commerce and trade associations in Kota Kinabalu. Following from presentations by BNM, SME Corp and CGC showcasing the wide spectrum of financing options available for SMEs and other businesses, there was a frank and invigorating exchange of views and feedback on recent developments in the financial services sector from diverse perspectives.

Having organized dialogues in Penang, Batu Pahat, Kuala Terengganu, Ipoh and our most recent itinerary, Kuching, we are pleased to take away a much clearer appreciation of the common concerns as well as the distinctive sets of commercial issues faced by different groups in different locations,” said Chuah Mei Lin, the Executive Director of ABM who thanked the participants for their warm reception.
“The SME sector has been recognized as a vital component of the Malaysian economy and a key driver of economic growth. For this reason, the banking community is committed to supporting the growth and development of SMEs by reaching out to SMEs in every region in Malaysia, not only as financiers, but in the spirit of true partnership,” she added.
Apart from the Dialogue, ABM will be organizing a SME Seminar which is open to SMEs and businesses tomorrow at the Suria Sabah Mall. Admission to the two half-day session seminar aimed at sharing, for the benefit of SMEs and entrepreneurs, the whole spectrum of financing options available in tandem with the cycle of growth of businesses is free. Experienced speakers will be on hand to explain loan application processes and to provide advice on cash flow management. The medium of language for presentations in the morning session from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm will be in English whilst the medium for the afternoon presentations from 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm will include Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin.
