Displaying of Bank Charges for Cash Withdrawal at ATMs
Kuala Lumpur, Monday 4 January 2010 – In line with international best practices, automated teller machines (ATMs) of all commercial banks have, with effect from 1 January 2010, begun to alert customers through a message on the ATM screen as to the charges imposed if a cash withdrawal is made at an ATM of a different network or a different bank. The message will appear before the user commits to making the cash withdrawal to enable the user to decide whether to proceed with, or to cancel the transaction.
The Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) explained that this initiative is an additional measure taken by its member banks towards better and more effective disclosure. Information on fees and charges of the banks’ respective products and services are already prominently displayed on the banks’ websites and made available at branch premises.
Commercial banks will continue to innovate to ensure that the standards and quality of their services are world class.
